The White Lions – Pascha and Uganda

In November 2019, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park welcomed two extraordinary new residents: Pascha and Uganda, a pair of rare white lion brothers. Their arrival marked a significant milestone for the park, enhancing its reputation as a sanctuary for endangered species and offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe these majestic creatures up close.

The journey of Pascha and Uganda to Lincolnshire began when their previous facility in Europe faced closure. Recognising the urgency of the situation and the importance of providing a suitable habitat for these endangered animals, Lincolnshire Wildlife Park stepped in to offer them a new home. The park’s commitment to animal welfare and conservation made it an ideal sanctuary for the brothers. Upon their arrival, the lions were placed in a quarantine period to ensure their health and safety before being introduced to their custom-designed enclosure.

The unveiling of Pascha and Uganda to the public was a momentous occasion. In a special event coinciding with BBC’s Children in Need, the park invited Pudsey Bear to officially introduce the white lions to visitors. This event not only highlighted the park’s new additions but also underscored its dedication to community engagement and charitable causes.

White lions are exceptionally rare, with only a handful remaining in the wild due to factors such as habitat loss and hunting. Their distinctive white coats, resulting from a recessive gene, make them unique among lion species. The presence of Pascha and Uganda at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park provides an invaluable opportunity for education and awareness, allowing visitors to learn about the challenges faced by these magnificent animals and the efforts required to protect them.

The park spared no effort in ensuring that Pascha and Uganda’s new home catered to their needs. Their enclosure boasts central heating, a swimming pool with waterfalls, sand pits, climbing structures, and basking areas. Designed with both the lions’ comfort and visitor experience in mind, the enclosure features bulletproof glass panels, allowing guests to observe the lions from just millimetres away, providing an intimate and safe viewing experience.
